MOTIVATIONAL MAPS®

Plan your route to success with Motivational Maps®

Motivation lies at the heart of every decision we make and every success we achieve. We are all unique: it’s not our personality or knowledge and skills that drives us, it’s our motivation.

Unlike our personality, motivation is not fixed. It’s dynamic. It changes to adapt to the situation we are in and the challenges we face. We know when we feel motivated to do something, it’s wonderful, it energises us and drives us on to be the best we can be. But we also know when we don’t feel motivated. When our motivation levels are running low it’s hard to do anything. It’s hard to get out of bed. By understanding what naturally motivates us we can begin to understand what makes us do the things we do and say the things we say. We can identify what ‘makes us tick’. We can find direction and we can find success.

People are not driven by what they do, they are driven by why they do what they do. Motivational Maps® are a powerful tool that identifies which of the nine motivational drivers are important to you at the current time. Your unique Motivational Maps® report enables you to see which of these nine drivers are being met and provides strategies for maintaining and improving your motivation.

Whatever age you are, whether you are at school, college, work, going through major life changes or heading for retirement, understanding what motivates you enables you, and those supporting you to identify what is important to you.

The nine Motivational drivers are:

Defender

The Defender wants security, stability and safety. They enjoy predictability and dislike change and surprises.

Friend

The Friend likes to belong, to be part of a community, part of a team, to be sociable and well liked. They seek friendship and fulfilling relationships.

Star

The Star wants to be recognised for their achievements. They seek respect and social esteem.

Director

The Director likes power, influence, control of people and/or resources. They value having a clearly defined career path.

Builder

The Builder seeks money and material satisfaction. They enjoy having targets and are competitive.

Expert

The Expert seeks specialisation. They enjoy acquiring knowledge and being a specialist.

Creator

The Creator seeks innovation, identification with new, expressing creative potential. They enjoy solving problems.

Spirit

The Spirit seeks freedom and independence, and dislikes being micro managed. They enjoy setting their own priorities, managing their own time and making their own decisions.

Searcher

The Searcher seeks meaning and needs to be making a difference. They enjoy helping others and need plenty of feedback and reassurance.

Who developed the Motivational Map®?

Motivational Maps® were developed James Sale, an educationalist, through his extensive research into human motivation and the study of three primary sources:

  • Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs,
  • Edgar Schein’s Career Anchors
  • The Enneagram, a personality profiling tool

Is the Motivational Map® a Personality Test?

No, it isn’t.
Personality tests deal with traits, which are fixed and stable; they provide a snapshot of who you are.
The Motivational Map® is a self-perception inventory, and deals with states, which are changing and dynamic.

Are Motivational Maps® Accurate?

No, it isn’t.
Due to the unique design of Motivational Maps® each of the nine domains are graded by an almost infinite range thus ensuring the results are unique and specific to each individual. Research from constant analysis of feedback shows individuals find the results up to 99.9% accurate.
